Elastic Big Data Processing with Myriad and Mesos. ETL Use Cases and Hadoop

Details
Hoping you all have (had) a wonderful Christmas and a superb New Year marking the start of another great year with HUG Ireland! On that positive note, it gives us great pleasure to announce the first 2016 event for HUG Ireland, which is sponsored by Synchronoss Technologies @Synchronoss on January 11th, 2016 at 6pm. No need to wait on Santa Claus, you can RSVP your place today!
We shall be meeting at Synchronoss for three great presentations from Mary Mangru of DAMA, Bryan Quinn of Synchronoss and Michael Hausenblas of Mesosphere discussing the following agenda:
Short Introduction - DAMA Ireland by Mary Mangru, President of DAMA Ireland
Mary will be making a short presentation of the new Irish Chapter of DAMA, a global not for profit community organisation that is dedicated to best practice and education in data management.
Elastic Big Data Processing by Michael Hausenblas, Developer and Cloud Advocate with Mesosphere
There are many distributed compute and storage systems in the Hadoop ecosystem. From good old MapReduce to Spark, Drill as well as HDFS, Kafka, Cassandra and so on. How can we benefit from all of them in a straightforward and operationally simple way? Enter Apache Mesos and the Datacenter Operating System (DCOS). This talk will show how easy it is to install and use the above mentioned frameworks along with how to combine the YARN-based world with Mesos, using the new Apache Myriad project.
Importing & Exporting Data to and from Hadoop by Bryan Quinn, Analytics Architect with Synchronoss
Processing data in Hadoop is all well and good but how do you get data into and out of Hadoop. In this presentation Bryan describes a number of ETL use cases he has used over the past 4 years on their production clusters. Use cases involving writing data to and retrieving data from HDFS, RDBMS, HBase & MongoDB will be described in this presentation.
The event Hashtag is
#HUGIreland
and new members are warmly welcomed to join veteran big data professionals and enthusiasts of HUG Ireland for a great evening of talks related to Hadoop. Networking will be in O'Neills of Pearse Street (http://www.oneillsdublin.com/) after the event.
