Machine Learning and the Serving Layer. Successful Big Data Architecture

Details

HUG Ireland is delighted to present our October Meetup, which is kindly sponsored by Bank of Ireland @boistartups. We have two star quality speakers on this special occasion! Chris Fregly, Research Scientist of Netflix/big data fame, who currently works for PipelineIO is over from San Francisco. We are also proud to present Shane Evans, CEO of Scrapinghub.com as our home grown star, who will be wrapping up the event with the final talk of the evening!

The agenda is as follows:

Machine Learning and the Serving Layer by Chris Fregly (https://www.linkedin.com/in/cfregly), Research Scientist with PipelineIO (http://pipeline.io/)

PipelineIO is a streaming analytics and machine learning startup based in San Francisco, CA. In this completely demo-based talk, Chris will be discussing an area of machine learning and artificial intelligence that is often overlooked - the real-time, end-user-facing "serving" layer! Serving models to end-users in real-time in a highly-scalable, fault-tolerant manner requires not only an understanding of machine learning, but also an understanding of distributed systems and scalable micro services. Chris will combine his work experience from both Databricks (Apache Spark people) and Netflix (video streaming people) to demo real-world, production-ready, 100% open source code for deploying your Spark ML and TensorFlow AI models into production to serve end-users using key components of the Netflix Open Source stack.

Successful Big Data Architecture by Shane Evans (https://ie.linkedin.com/in/shaneaevans), Co Founder of Scrapinghub (https://scrapinghub.com/)

In this talk, Shane will discuss the design and architecture of Scrapinghub’s systems for storing and analysing big data. He will introduce HBase, dive into the architecture, and share what he learned designing, implementing and scaling a platform based on it. Shane will then present some applications that make use of the web data and describe some future challenges in this area.

As usual the hashtag for the event is #HUGIreland

See you all on the 3rd at Bank of Ireland for a great big data evening!
