What we’re about
L.A. Hiking Group is for people looking to meet others interested in walking or hiking for exercise and attending other fun events such as stair climbing, trail running, bicycling, kayaking, skiing, river rafting, etc.
We also host BBQs, parties and other social gatherings. We may even go on exotic vacations, but mostly it is about having fun in the outdoors.
L.A. Hiking Group is a nonprofit public service organization. Lifting people up is our mission. Our event hosts, event organizers, assistant organizers and organizer ("hosts") are all volunteers.
We organize many outdoor adventures in greater L.A. and surrounding areas as well as hiking, camping and backpacking trips to national parks and wildernesses throughout California and other states. Our hosts have expertise ranging from beginner, intermediate to advanced level.
The hosts of L.A Hiking Group are not professional hike leaders. You are responsible for yourself. By signing up for our events, you agree not to hold the hosts of L.A. Hiking Group responsible for whatever happens to you over these events.
L.A. Hiking Group does not certify the expertise of our hosts and is NOT responsible for any possible losses and injuries, incidental or otherwise.
For safety and liability reasons, you MUST have a recent profile PHOTO clearly showing your face and carry a personal ID to participate in our events.

Veterans Day Holiday, Intermediate Hike, Griffith Park
Location not specified yetWell, hello! Tuesday is a holiday. Let's hike!
What? Tuesday (11/11): moderate / intermediate outing - Griffith Park.
Time and Overview: Approx 4-5 miles and two (2) hours.
- Anyone who needs more pause than minimal breaks should plan to turn around, go back the same way we came to that point, and use GPS to navigate solo back to the parking lot. Please bring a cell phone for this possibility. We'll do an average of 2.33MPH pace.Round hiking trip: start and end at the same point. 4-5 miles. Per Google MAPS, Approx 600 ft elevation up and then back down. (It may feel like more of an elevation change than this because of the UP UP UP and DOWN and UP UP and DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWWWWWN trajectory…)
Parking: Merry Go Round Lot 1. (The first parking lot you drive through when turning off Crystal Springs Dr. up “Fire Rd.” Turn right. PARK. We meet at that parking lot entrance – near the road closure boundary .)
Parking Google Maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/KtEKRuDpdvCUbCw79
Meet: Entrance to Merry Go Round Lot 1 where you turned in from the Fire Rd off Crystal Springs Dr. See pictures here for specific spot...
Exact Route TBA, but something like the image and this link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/2jrmt49HUPxqKTnv9 .Details: Some extended, steep portions. Limited stopping. Lots of loose sand / dirt, especially on descent. Wear grippy hiking shoes and bring water. Poles are not super helpful, but you do you. Extended pure sun areas – wear a hat and plan for this. On the route, the sun exposure changes the temperature by 10+F from shaded portions. Layer up/down.
Bathrooms: Within a 5 minute walk of start/end point.
Dogs: Welcome. Dogs must keep up with the group pace, respect all hikers who do not want to be around dogs, and stay on a limited distance leash. (Griffith Park rules)
Disabilities: ---> Service Animals, ASL Interpretation, and ????: Please let me know ahead of time if you need anything. I'll do my best to make it happen.
Minimum RSVP by 11/10 at 7PM: SIX (6). Otherwise, canceled by 8PM on Monday - announced here via comment and cancellation.
