Hike at Ahmanson Ranch/Las Virgines Open Space

Details

I did this once before the holidays, on a day that was drizzly, and we all had a good time. So, it should be even better. The trailhead is really easy to find, and lots of free parking, and not too crowded at all.

This will be approximately a SIX mile hike but not as much elevation change as some of my other hikes like Temescal. There will be just a couple spots that might be a little steep.

This is a moderately difficult hike.

We will be starting from where Las Virgines dead ends north of the 101, hiking along the Cheeseboro Ridge with sweeping views of prairie and oak groves and then down into Cheesboro Canyon with magnificent oaks, where the acorn woodpeckers store their acorn harvest in little holes on the trunk. We'll see hawks, and maybe a coyote or quail. Too chilly for rattlesnakes this time of year.

Bring water, snacks, good shoes, and just in case . . . . a headlamp if you have one, we will be coming back just as its getting dark, although the areas quite open, and not dense. The weather looks like it will be good, but I will send an update.
