Tuesday Night Trailblaze

Fun Outdoor Workouts!
Zoom-Zoom-Kaboom

Are you looking to add cardio workout during the week? Join us on the Griffith Park trails for a TNT workout! It's an intense workout, fast pace start-to-finish, the group members are motivating, the views are amazing, and being outside feels great! Individually we push the pace as the group typically heads towards Mount Hollywood and at the peak we marvel at the view a few minutes before blazing back to the parking lot.

If you are not familiar with TNT workouts please read all of the details before signing up.

TNT are interval training workouts: it's a high-intensity, fast pace start-to-finish, there are short bursts up hilly sections, the pace is faster on the flat & downhill sections, & the big climbs are individual goals. The group is typically in small clusters during the intervals (climbs, speed sections, etc.) and individually not far apart. There are quick recover points (brief stop or brisk walk) and a break at the top but the group enjoys moving fast start-to-finish.
The organizer/sweep stays between the "Blazers" and the members in the process of improving their endurance. The organizer/sweep will wait at the regroup junctions, No Member Left Behind. However, you must be able to maintain a fast pace start-to-finish

Members that want to try a TNT workout for the first time should attend Week #1.
The last Tuesday of the month should NOT be your first TNT workout.

Monthly Plan: (routes may be altered depending on trail conditions & weather)
Week #1- Dynamite Light!
Considered intro to TNT workouts. Shortest route of the month but trying to keep pace with the Blazers will make you sweat. Averages: 5.5 to 6 miles, gain 1000' to 1300', steady ascend to the peak, & speed work. The Blazers will typically do more miles and gain.
Week #2 - Trail Blazers' Delight
You tried week #1 & it was a great workout, it was the good kind of pain, & the high-intensity pace was hard but it was fun moving fast. Averages: 6 to 7.5 miles, gain 1200' to 1500', 1 to 2 steep climbs, & speed work.
Week #3 - Blaze to Glory
Keeping pace with the Blazers is hard work, you know what it takes, and you enjoy it. Tonight is not for first timers. Averages: 6.5 to 7.5 miles, gain 1400' to 1900', 2 to 3 steep climbs, & speed work.
Week #4- Zoom-Zoom-Kaboom
TNT workouts are dynamite and you need plenty of might tonight to keep the group tight. This week we trail blaze more miles in two hours than most do over a weekend. Averages: 7 to 9 miles, gain 1500' to 2300', 3 to 4 steep climbs, & speed work.

Weekly Bonus: climb south face of Mount Hollywood

Difficulty: (ADVANCE) TNT workouts are NOT slow pace hikes and the difficulty level is NOT for beginner hikers. TNT are interval training workouts up/down hilly & steep sections with few breaks. You may use your hands for balance and leverage on steep trails. The workouts are for people that have been hiking/training regularly and want to add interval training to the weekly regimen. An actual tracked Week #1 workout (miles/gain/time/speed) is below.
Tracked: Water Tower 113 - 5.5mi /1200' gain /1:38 time / 3.3mph

Good pace, my apologies for damaging the park view with my big belly, but it was another hot day :)

Thank you all, Lou ! Reminder, maybe longer mileage next week, better to bring a light for the second half of the run, it was dark last night.

That's how a TNT week #4 feels like, I like it! My shirt was soaked at the end. We blazed new trails and it was a challenging route, good one Darin! I also enjoyed the bonus Mt Hollywood climb that Mark picked out. Thanks TNTs!!

Next week we chill and lay down our skills to refill our will.
