Stoney Pointe, Santa Susana Pass and Corriganville Parks, plus a surprise

Lots of Rocks and 4 Hills to Climb--no ropes needed

probably 10 miles

DIFFICULTY: medium to hard because of the elevation gain and heat

THE RISKS: HEAT,  RATTLE-SNAKES, AND SOME POISON OAK TO DODGE ON CHATSWORTH PEAK

THE PLAN: We will meet at Stoney Point park and climb to the top. A pretty short hike. Then we drive south on Topanga for 1 1/4 miles and turn right on Lassen for 1 mile and drive until it ends at Oakwood Cemetery. To the left of the cemetery entrance is the trailhead. We then go to the labyrinth rock, then climb the Stagecoach trail up to Lilac lane, then climb up to Chatsworth Peak (900 feet elevation gain from where we park), then drop down (600 feet) to Corriganville Park. We climb up a 200 foot tall rock formation there, then return the way we came (except we will go around Chatsworth Peak for the return)

It'll be warm--and not much shade--BRING AN UMBRELLA!!

There will be drinking water, shade and porta-potties at the mid-point in Corriganville Park

(BELOW: Stoney Point park)

(BELOW: heart rock hole in Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park)

AS USUAL: Bring 4 quarts of water, a hat, sunscreen, munchies, Gern Blanston repellent

Very much enjoyed the physical challenge, the gorgeous scenery and the friendly company! And most happy to hear about the pending property purchase to include the natural "amphitheater". Fingers crossed it's a complete success! Thanks & see you all on another hike sometime!

Rex, you should make all your hikes a different letter and spell out a secret message.

Did anyone track how many miles we hiked in total?

    July 22, 2013

    • Kurt G.

Hi Jennifer, Rex posted my GPS tracks in a comment above. Added together it looks like 5.8 miles. I think Rex' 10 mile estimate included the wind chill and heat index factors.

Thankyou, Rex, for another fun hike. I love all the rocks. Stoney Pointe was great..driven past it my whole life and never stopped to check it out. Great seeing you again, Matina, and making new friends with Darren, Amy and Mark. It was loads of fun after hanging out with you guys and Kurt too. Hope to see you again soon.

I may be going to see the Flock of Seagull's show afterward at Warner Center Park on Topanga Canyon a little north of the 101, so no after hike dinner plans. However, those that want a delicious pre-hike Indian buffet should join me at 11:30 at Royal Delhi Palace located at 22323 Sherman Way, located a few blocks west of Topanga Canyon blvd. We'll hopefully take it easy the first hour on the hike at Stoney Point to avoid stomach cramps on the later uphill stretches.
Also, if anyone gets lost, call me at[masked] (but no texts, cause I still have a dumb-phone)
