Rocks, Views & Rocks...Stunt road to Topanga Lookout and Saddle Peak---loop hike

A Big Loop hike from Stunt Road up the rocky ridge to Topanga Lookout, with amazing climbable rock formations all the way up,

then lunch on the concrete pad up there with great views of the city and the ocean,

then up to the top of Saddle Peak for more fun climbing rocks, with a new loop around the climbing wall

Finally, downhill via the Stunt High Trail past Cold Creek back to our cars.

----------------

WE MEETUP AT NOON AND HIKE STARTS AT 12:15 --I WILL WAIT 15 MINUTES MAXIMUM FOR LATECOMERS. PLEASE TAKE THE 101 FREEWAY TO GET HERE, AS THE PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY WILL BE A PARKING LOT!!!

DISTANCE: 8 to 10 miles, 5 HOURS. Elevation gain is 1250 feet from Stunt Road to Topanga Lookout in mostly full sun. Then we gain another 350 feet after lunch to hit Saddle Peak in part sun part shade.

FOLLOWED BY OPTIONAL DINNER AT SOME PLACE TO BE DETERMINED, MOST LIKELY Rocco's Pizzaria IN TOPANGA CANYON. 123 S Topanga Canyon Blvd

DIFFICULTY: This is a workout, but is doable by any able hiker. We will sometimes need to use our hands as we climb over rocks on the trail to Topanga Lookout. After lunch, the trail is much easier (more civilized).

PLEASE: NO DOGS, EVEN ON-LEASH

Thanks a lot Rex, this was my first meetup and I'm afraid it may have ruined me...because now I will expect nothing but the best ;) Looking forward to the next one!

Given the volume of photos here, I thought it might be easier to share mine via Google+. Lots of great pics of you guys, download at will (there's a panoramic from Topanga Lookout worth grabbing, too).

Thanks to everyone for such a challenging and fun hike. Thanks Rex for picking a really beautiful spot. I have driven this road many times, but didn't know what treasures were in the wilderness just above and below. Thanks to everyone for your kindness and patience with my sudden dizziness and nausea. Not sure why I was feeling that way, but each of you really treated me with respect and helpfulness, so I really appreciate that. Thanks to Becky for walking out with me in the beginning and also for a fun side jaunt to the "top of the world" graffiti tower spot and great ocean views. And it was great to join everyone on the way back, so thanks Rex for planning that middle spot for refilling of our water. Nice sharing some world conversation, pizza and Stella Artois afterwards, as well. I now know exactly where Kazakhstan is located! Overall a very fun day. P.S. I slept 11 hours last night!

I was thinking of parking my car at the top of the hike with a cooler of ice full of water bottles so we'll have cold water for the 2nd half. If anyone can meet me at the trailhead at 11:45 to do this, please post a comment.
