TIME TO GET WET!
HIKE TO HENNINGER FLATS AND EATON FALLS
DIFFICULTY: medium
DISTANCE: 7 TO 8 MILES
WHEN: 2 PM UNTIL THEY KICK US OUT
We will start at the Eaton canyon nature center parking lot at the building. There is a native plant garden there. Then we will head north, soon cross the creek and head up to the Walnut canyon trail which leads us to the Mount Wilson toll road trail up to Henninger Flats. The elevation gain from the canyon nature center to the flats in the first 3 miles is about 1600 feet. From the flats we take the Mt Wilson trail down to the bridge (2 miles) over Eaton creek and rock-hop for a half mile to the falls. There are a lot of stream crossings on rocks so plan on getting wet, unless you're really good at rock-hopping! Then we go back and that's about 2 1/2 miles.
DINNER: as usual, somewhere where we can completely replace all the calories we have just burned off. Please post any suggestions in the comments box below, and we'll vote that day.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: The hike is in Altadena, which is northeast of Pasadena. Take the 210 freeway to the Altadena Drive offramp, (which is between the Allen ave. and Sierra Madre Blvd offramps) go north (uphill) and just north of the intersection with New York Drive is the hard-to-see right turn into the Eaton nature center. The Google map calls it Veranda Ave. We will meet at the Nature Center building, which has restrooms, provided that it's open that day.
AS USUAL: Bring 2 to 3 quarts of water, comfy hiking shoes, hat, sunscreen, munchies, Gern Blanston repellent
