RANCHO SIERRA VISTA TO TRI-PEAKS VIA THE WESTERN RIDGE TRAIL
The Last time I did this hike, it was hard. It took a total of 7 hours, and totaled probably 12 miles. This time I want to spend 2 hours exploring the caves at Tri-Peaks. It is that cool. (So the hike will be 8 hours total of climbing, walking and exploring)
Tri-Peaks is a volcanic dome that shattered, leaving labyrinths, cracks and caves for we adventurers to explore.
BRING A FLASHLIGHT OR HEADLAMP FOR THE (OPTIONAL) CAVE EXPLORATION
Since I was there 2 years ago, a brush fire in the spring of 2013 torched most of the brush and lucky for us, also burnt away the poison oak on Tri-Peaks.
GETTING THERE: On some sections, you have to use of your hands on the way up and down. There is one chute to climb. The elevation gain goes from 800 to 2800 feet in 4 miles or so. We're going to take our time, so if you want to go fast, I'm not your hike leader.
HIKE IS followed by massive caloric intake somewhere nearby afterward, either Baba's Mediterranean or Olive Garden.
DIFFICULTY: DIFFICULT, EXPECT TO SWEAT, COMPLAIN, AND THEN SAY WOW, WHAT A COOL HIKE! (We could take the easy way to TriPeaks from Sandstone Peak on the south, but then we'd miss the amazing rock formations and elevation gain on our route...)
FREEWAY DIRECTIONS: 101 freeway west to Thousand Oaks, take Wendy Drive offramp to (left) south and park where Wendy makes "T" with Potrero Road.
Bring lunch, clothing (sorry, nude hikes are a different Meetup group), lots of water--4 liters, hat, comfy shoes, snacks, all your troubles..., camera, etc
