Moderate Griffith Park Hike and Vegan Potluck

Details

We'll meet in Griffith Park at the Upper Merry-go-round parking lot (aka Parking Lot 2) at the north end by the steps. We start at 10:00 a.m. on a moderate level hike. We'll return to the cars, find picnic tables appropriate to the size of the group staying for the potluck, then eat.

The hike will be a moderate pace with no rock scrambling. If you are familiar with Griffith Park's Sierra Club hike levels this would be a 3+. The hike duration is approximately 2 hours.

Bring some water, and boots or shoes with good traction on trails. The potluck picnic will be vegan. From what Lee Zeebold tells me there hasn't been one yet for people following, or interested in vegan dishes. For those who don't know vegans don't eat anything that came from an animal.

If you'd like to attend I'm hoping you'll comment here on what you plan on bringing to the picnic. This way we'll be able to see what others are bringing and hopefully not bring too many of one type of dish.

A little editorializing:

A vegan diet can be extremely healthy. On the other hand, you could claim to be a vegan while smoking cigarettes, doing drugs, never exercising, eating highly processed foods with sugars, processed flour, and cook everything to death. I'm in the camp that prefers to eat foods that use ingredients processed as little as possible, unrefined, and eating a large percent of my diet raw, and when affordable, organic.

If you don't know how to prepare any vegan dishes you can bring fresh fruits, veggies, fruit juice, or just bring paper plates and some utensils.

If you want to try some healthy vegan recipes Dr. McDougall has many you can look at here:

There are tons of vegan recipes online, try to find ones that don't use sugar, white rice, white flour. If you need any suggestions on how to substitute healthier options for those things just ask me.
