Frank's Thursday night hike at Griffith Park:

Details

This is a regular hike for me. It is 2 hours long, and we go between 3.75 and 5 miles in those 2 hours, with an average of about 1,200 feet of elevation gain.

You should not join this hike if you are new to hiking, or you prefer hiking on fire roads. My preferred routes are single track trails that follow steep ridges up to a peak. The trails are irregular, sometimes slippery, and often challenging.

If you are familiar with the Sierra Club's hike levels this is a level four to four +. I'm not sure what the Meet Up equivalent is, but on their 1 to 10 scale I'd guess that it's about a 7.

You should be in good shape, have excellent balance, good night vision, and have some sense of adventure.

You should have boots or shoes with good traction, bring water, and dress appropriately. Trekking poles are not required, but you may wish you had one or two with you.

I know a lot of trails in Griffith Park and I do not always know which route I'm doing until I show up. Even then I may change my mind at any given time due to participants, weather conditions, my mood, or requests.

We have a nice group of hikers, and the group size varies from 10 to 25.
