WE'RE GONNA HIKE VIRTUALLY ALL THE TRAILS AT VASQUEZ ROCKS AND CLIMB ALL THE COOLEST ROCKS!
11 am to 4:30 pm, or so...(park gates close at 5)
BRING A CAMERA!
A lot of my fellow hikers say they get lost in the vast honey-comb of trails at Vasquez. And no websites have a detailed trail map. So I took an aerial photo and transferred the trails to a topo map, added in shading for the hills and rocks and creeks. It is posted below.
Our hike goes up, down, and all around the rocks, and we should be there all day, from 11 am to 4:30 pm-ish. Nothing too difficult, and you can bail out early and I won't be offended.
DISTANCE: 6 TO 8 MILES, MAYBE.
ELEVATION GAIN--AROUND 150 FEET IN THE FIRST PART OF THE HIKE, AROUND 500 FEET NEAR THE END.
So bring lunch, comfy hiking shoes, snacks, plenty of water (at least 3 liters--the water in the drinking fountains sucks!). We'll follow the creek a ways and go through the freeway underpass just for the heck of it. We'll check out the punchbowls and waterfalls in the north-west corner, assuming mother nature complies and gives us some rain. We'll see Native American pictographs (which may or may not be authentic, I'm told). I'll bring my guitar and try to annoy you with my bad attempts at singing the classics (rock, that is).
AFTERWARD: We'll head to the Big Mouth Pizza place in Agua Dulce for pizza, salad, beer, etc.
