Leo Carrillo Beach to Nicholas Pond, in west Malibu

Details
It's Lilac smelling time...a hike from the beach to Nicholas Pond
OK, this hike is between 7 and 8 miles, with 1700 feet of uphill in the first 2 miles, to the 20 acre pond at the top of Nicholas Canyon. Therefore, the hike is medium to hard level of difficulty, depending on your own skill level.
A few weeks ago, I was here. The sweet smelling lilac was flowering and the weird birds were making the strangest sounds at the pond.

The Ocean views from the rocks were spectacular. I didn't get to the north side of the Nicholas Flats, which usually has excellent spring wildflower displays, but we will get there on this hike.
We're starting at the beach, where we'll check out the tidepools and sea-cave. Then we start the all-uphill climb up the ridge and drop down to Nicholas Pond. Next, we loop around the pond, sit on the rocks along the pond, then head back down.
