If you've ever considered doing a long distance through hike continue reading below.
I am looking to form a group that will consist of people in New Mexico (ABQ and Santa Fe mostly) who are interested in through hiking the GET sometime in the next few-several years. The idea would be to have regular discussions to unite people who have the same time period available to do the trail and to help them with the planning. The two ends of the trail are ABQ and Phoenix. Check out the slides on the website below to get an idea of the amazing terrain encountered.
I plan to float this past the NM Backpacking meetup group, the Santa Fe Hiking Meetup and possibly the NM Mountain club as well. People from other states are welcome.
The hikes would be 40-46 day backpacking trips plus a few extra days for pre/post items. Spring and fall are the best times but those with the summer off might consider such things as hiking in the dark to beat the heat. The website below includes very detailed and thorough information to help plan one of these hikes. Members who can't make one hike might help with logistics and get help in return on their trip.
