Make Up Hike #3 - Golden Gate Bridge to Rodeo Beach ~11.9 miles

The Hike: Starting from the North Vista Point of the Golden Gate Bridge, we will go under the bridge and get on the Bay Area Ridge Trail. As we go up, the trail will become SCA Trail and then Alta Trail. Then we'll take the Bobcat Trail and the Miwok Trail all the way down to Rodeo Beach. After a break at Rodeo Beach, we will loop back to the Ridge Trail via the Miwok Trail and the Rodeo Valley Trail. We will reconnect with SCA Trail, make a right, and then head back down to the North Vista Point where we started. (Note: I won't be able to hang out afterward since I have plans. But others are welcome to make plans.)

This hike will be about 12 miles (could be more) and will have about 1600 feet of climbing (could be more), so it's not for beginners. We'll go about 2-3 mph, so we should be done by 2 or 3 p.m. depending on how long our breaks are.

Bring plenty of water (2-3 liters) and munchies and layers to keep you warm and allow you to cool off.

For a map that covers the trails we will be taking, see the link below:

The elevation profile and a highlighted map can be viewed here:

This hike will go on rain or shine. As of Tuesday, March 3, the forecast does not call for rain. However, it would be wise to bring rain gear just in case; these trails are exposed to the elements.

Parking: You should be able to park in the North Vista Point area, but since this is a very popular tourist place it could be difficult to find a spot. If it's full, then try the other side of the bridge. Take Alexander Avenue to the west (under the bridge) to Conzelman Road, then turn left at a small umarked road (West Bunker Road?). You should be in a parking lot just below the bridge on the west side. Then just walk under the bridge to meet up with the group.

Meeting point: I'll be at the Vista Point taking in the view of the city.

Important: People who participate in this hike do so at their own risk.

Finally getting around to uploading my GPS routes unto my Topo and getting some better statistics than the original estimate: For this hike the final distance was ~12.3mi and the gain ~1672ft.

Hi Martha. I just updated the event so that people can bring guests. I limited that option at first to make sure people could get in, but it looks like there will be plenty of space. Looking forward to meeting you on Sunday!
