With the heated debate in the last year and the passing of the controversial Health Care Bill, how can our humanist principles and lifestyles contribute to this important issue?
Does the Humanist position mandate a right to universal health care.
Does it lead us to greater concern about the economic and social costs?
Does the Humanist position mean that we are guided by compassion and emotion or empirical data on this issue?
Can there be a happy compromise between the positions and differences throughout the Humanist community?
Below is a selection of articles addressing this issue for your consideration. In addition I have posted the Humanist Manifesto III for reading to see how and if this can inform our position.http://www.centerforinquiry.net/blogs/entry/humanism_and_health_care/http://www.centerforinquiry.net/blogs/entry/a_secular_humanists_perspective_on_health_care_reform/http://www.secularhumanism.org/index.php?section=shb&page=death_panelshttp://www.americanhumanist.org/Who_We_Are/About_Humanism/Humanist_Manifesto_III
This is a monthly meeting where we discuss an article relating to some aspect of humanism, philosophy, current events, etc.. Due to the size of the meeting room, space is limited, so please RSVP before spaces fill up! Remember, this meeting is not in the same room as the normal group meeting. It is in Annex 1, the building beside the playground.
