Ladies and Gentlemen -
As the meetup page mentions, we are code golfing tonight. Be sure to bring your laptop. If you are unable to do so, that will probably be okay. It is my intent to work in teams of 3-6, with a mix of advanced, intermediate, and beginner programmers/golfers. As long as one of the team members has a laptop ready to run Ruby, you should be fine. (It can be an advantage to have multiple team members trying out code, though.)
If you were at the last golf meeting, this one will be different in a few ways: 1) I don't know what the lowest score possible is for any of the problems, 2) there are well-defined rules, 3) there are tests you can run to make sure your solution works, 4) there will be prizes (candy), and 5) all the problems are related to bioinformatics.
A note to beginners: please don't be shy. At the last code golf meeting, several of our experienced Rubyists took the time to explain what they were doing and why to their team mates as they worked solutions. It can be a great learning experience. Our goal with this meeting is for us to all improve as developers, and have fun doing it.
I'll see you this evening. Wear your favorite golfing outfit.
