You are invited to the 2nd Korean Peninsula Security Forum for a discussion on Korean Reunification. Admission is free and lunch will be provided free of charge for all attendees.

Last January at the New Year's press conference, President Park declared "Unification is the ultimate goal," and, on March 18, during her visit to Germany, announced her famous Dresden doctrine for unification. As hopes for unification were rising, there have been many conferences dealing with the subject in the U.S. as well as in Korea.
Most of the talks were about 1) the merit of unification ("unification is the ultimate goal," 2) estimating the time of unification (opinions range 5, 10, 20 years, etc.), and 3) preparing for unification (when reunification comes, such and such will happen; therefore we must prepare for them now), and so on.
However there has been little satisfactory discussion as to how to work for the kind of reunification we want (i.e., one based on freedom and democracy), which is extremely unlikely to be realized under the present circumstances, in which North Korea is determined not to give up it's nuclear program.
At this conference we would like to highlight this unfortunate reality, review North Korean strategy along with the policies of the US and the Republic of Korea (in dealing with the North's human rights and nuclear problems), and discuss possible actions or strategy we (the governments and people of the US and ROK) might take.

강연회에 관하여:
박근혜 대통령은 지난 1월 신년 기자회견에서 "통일은 대박이다”라고 선언했고 3월 18일에는 독일 국빈 방문중 북한을 향해 비핵화를 촉구하면서 인도적 지원, 동질성 회복, 인프라 구축 그리고 경재재건을 포함한 건설적이고 파격적인 통일 제안 “드레스덴 선언”을 내 놓았습니다. 통일에 대한 국민의 관심과 열기가 높아 지고 있는 가운데 최근 통일을 주제로 한 강연회들이 한국과 미국에서 많이 개최 되었습니다.
이런 행사들에서 논의된 내용들을 종합해 보면 대부분 통일을 낙관적으로 보고 통일을 위한 지지를 끌어 모으는 노력들이 많이 보였습니다. 예를 들면통일대박론 (통일이되면우리에게크게이익이될 것이다), 통일시점 (통일이5, 10, 20년이 걸릴찌는 모르지만 통일은 언젠가 올것이라는 희망), 통일준비론 (통일이되면이러 이러한 것들이필요하니지금부터준비해야된다) 등이 많이 논의 됐습니다. 또한 우리가 간절히 원하는 "자유민주통일"대신 "평화통일"이라는 표현이 주로 사용 되는것을 볼수 있었습니다.
이번 한반도 통일안보포럼에서는 자유민주통일이 현실적으로 어렵다는 전제하에 북한의 전략을 분석 이해하고 한미 양국 정부의 대북정책을 돌아 보며 닫혀 있는 통일의 문을 열기 위해 우리가해야할일이무엇인가를 논의하는데 초점을 두기로 했습니다.
본인이 기조연설을 맡고 미국의 북한 전문가들이 함께 하는 강연과 질의응답과 토론의 현장에 동포 여러분의 많은 참여를 바랍니다.
