.+Ops!

This October we're meeting near North Hollywood for a night of socializing and formal presentations. We are pleased to have Jathan from AOL present on programmatically handling the network space:

Trigger - Configuring network hardware so you don't have to:

AOL has a huge network. Are you done laughing? No seriously, we have a HUGE network. Yes, the network has shrunk over the years, but we still have over 5,000 network devices we have to keep up and running. In this presentation I will talk about Trigger, a network toolkit we created to manage our network hardware at scale.

We are also happy to have Nate Johnson, CEO of Reliam, presenting:

Strategies for Pushing DevOps

The “pillars” of DevOps are at the heart of how Reliam’s operations team and whole business operates on a daily basis, we call this Internet Application Management (http://www.reliam.com/deliver/IAM). We see this as our culture that we work to create and grow every day. We practice this with our customers and our customers’ developers (often the developers are a third party in our engagements) at every opportunity. However, we have had to push DevOps on many companies that have not used it before. Nate will address what obstacles he’s faced, what he’s done to overcome them, and what advice he has for anyone experiencing this issue.

About Nate

Nate Johnson is CEO of Reliam. He worked on some of the first internet application architectures and continues to stay a step ahead of the industry by providing his clients with state of the art services. Nate founded Reliam (formerly Ristech) in 2001, and continually pushes the boundaries with company reliability and employee expertise. Reliam provides solutions for the largest internet events in the world, the top interactive media agencies, and the world’s most recognized brands.

We've also got one lightning talk lined up soliciting collaboration on an open source orchestration tool from Dave Thomas!

Introducing Deployment Objects

Deployment Objects is a tool that employs grammars, events, orchestration, and a rich domain model to solve distributed deployment and maintenance problems.

Did you bring collection of scripts with you when you started your last job? I took the last few months off to start a project (deploymentobjects.org (http://deploymentobjects.org/)) to bring together everything I learned about DevOps in the last 5 years, and although pre-alpha, the project is ready to see the inside it's first real company. In this brief talk I share some creative ideas on how to fill the gaps and achieve the goal of automating everything. I hope to provoke a lively discussion on what methods people are using to solve these problems and interest potential contributors.

About Dave

Dave is looking for ideas and collaborators for Deployment Objects.

EQAL is kindly hosting us. They're about one block from the North Hollywood stop on the Metro Red Line. If you're driving, there's free parking at that station and around Weddington St. We do have a seat limit, so please keep your fellow members in mind if you need to cancel.

Food and drinks will be provided by EdgeCast and the organizers.

See you there!

Carlo
