People often ask...what exactly is the Blues? To KFAI (http://kfai.org/) http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/8/a/2/2/event_158015362.jpegRadio's Jacquie Maddix, the blues is all about connection. We, as a multicultural people, connect with one another through music and through our shared spiritual experiences. As "LadyJ Griot"...Ms. Maddix talks of those shared experiences in storyteller form. Using live music and blues history, she tells how the lyrics of the blues reveal the ancient form of spiritual worship practiced by the African slaves on the southern plantation. The information imbedded in the blues talks of the "crossroads" and "Little Johnnie Conkeroo". How many people are aware that those words come directly from ancient African tribal religion. Jacquie knows and as LadyJ Griot, along with blues veterans Jack Taylor on bass, Dave Larson on drums and Brian Dyke on guitar, she uses the music to help us all remember that we are still one people and we remain connected to one another body to body and soul to soul.
