London Scala UG - October Update

From: Andy H.
Sent on: Sunday, October 9, 2011 8:33 PM

Firstly, a big thanks to Chris for last months user group talk and finally showing me that scalaz is not just for the ultra-functional wing of Scala and does have some practical use after all :-). If you missed it or just want to see it all again the video is now online at

October highlight (and this week) has to be Scala LiftOff where there is talks by David Pollak, Tim Perrett, Graham Tackley, Phil Bagwell,Iulian Dragos and Miles Sabin in the mornings and an open conference style afternoon. If work, etc will not let you spend the whole day then there is also a couple of user group events on Tuesday and Thursday so could can see what you're missing or just to catch up with all the latest Scala news over a beer at the Slaughtered Lamb afterwards.

For the November talk we have kind of hijacked Brendan McAdams (from MongoDB) 'in the brain' talk at SkillsMatter. Due to Brendan's limited free evenings (he's only on London for a limited time) he has agreed to modify his talk so that it is much more (or entirely) Scala and we will use that. ( page will be added soon)

Finally, as always, big thanks to TIMGroup (formerly YouDevise) and SkillsMatter for helping with place for us to meet.

ps: In the non-scala section, anybody interested in DBs,AI or Machine Learning. Stanford University is running a online couse starting 10th Oct for ten weeks at and there is a london study group
