Make:SF July 13th at the reMake Lounge

Hello Makers,

As always we begin with project demos. So come and show off your projects! We want to see the cool stuff your making. Get help with your projects if you need it. Network with other makers and see what other people are doing.

Then Because We Can will speak on what it takes to go from an amateur maker to a professional maker. Because We Can is a design company that uses a bunch of CAD and CNC goodness to create amazing furniture, interiors, and art. They have been able to take their passion for making and turn it into a full time job and now they want to share what they have learned with all of you.

Finally, we will teach you how to work with Electroluminescent (EL) wire. EL Wire lights up like neon, yet is flexible enough embellish clothing, bikes, computers and more. When combined with a driver, it can glow, blink, or even be programmed in complex sequences that produced animations.

In the workshop, we will cover the basics - soldering the EL Wire to the connector, which allows it to be attached to the driver, which powers the wire; and working with EL Wire to attach it to a stable shape, such as an item of clothing.

Kit Cost: $10.
Includes a driver, 18 inches of wire (blue, white, red, orange, green or yellow), and connectors.

You provide the item to which you wish to attach the wire. Jackets, hats, bracelets, bikes, and even laptops might be good candidates.

This fun-for-all-ages event starts at 6:30pm. Children under 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.

New to Make:SF. Here is what you can do:
- New to making? Come and explore with a fun mini-project.
- Have an idea? Come and we will help you get started making it.
- Making something? Come and demo it. Get feedback and network with the Makers.
- Come to see the speakers we bring in talk about their projects, tools you can use, etc.

If possible I'd like to present my "Puzzlebox Brainstorms" project which uses Open Source software to allow kids to race robots built from LEGO Mindstorms using thought-controlled EEG headsets.

    Hi all,

We are limiting this meetup to 30 people... two to a soldering iron. More is fine, but you don't need to RSVP yes to this one if you are not making an EL Wire kit.

    Thanks!

Loved the presentation on starting your own business.

2 great speakers, got inspired to do some more looking iinto the brain control aspects of some projects. The business presentation was also very informative and fun to watch them talk about their experiences. I already have EL wire under my belt so I passed on that part, but nice to see others having fun integrating the wired into the stuff they brought to decorate.

The sponsors were fantastic and gave really good instruction. The other attendees at my table were also really nice and helpful. Everyone shared the materials well. It was fun!

Pretty sweet. I really liked the talk, and EL wire is cool stuff, if a bit simple.
