MoDevDC Tech Meetup

Details
This is our first Wednesday of the month meetup where we will feature three member led 20 minute tech sessions. This is a chance for MoDev members to teach and learn the kind of stuff that you won't find in a book or even on the web (yet).
Recruiters and service providers are welcome to attend with sponsorship. Please contact us if you are interested.
This months sessions are:
Kevin Dagostino:
Setting up a database and API for free* on Google's Infastructure.
(App Engine python coding demo)
*App Engine is free until you have lots, and lots of users, > 5 million requests per month.
Make your apps real-time and collaborative using KayleeMQ, a free, unlimited, topic based messaging queue developed and launched on June 1st by Kevin. http://www.KayleeMQ.com/
(Javascript coding demos)
About Kevin:
Kevin is a software engineer for Boeing Defense, Space and Security.
He has a B.S. in Biophysics, M.S. in Systems Architecture and is currently attending Stanford. He is the organizer of the "Columbia App Engine" Meet-up group whose goal is to help local developers create powerful server services for their start-ups.

James Brannan (http://www.jamesabrannan.com/index.html)
Leaping Lizards: Cocos2D is Easy.
In this 20 minute session you will learn basic 2D game creation using the Cocos2D framework. Forget OpenGL ES and the UIKit; Cocos2D makes game development easy! In this session James will discuss the basic concepts behind 2D games, how Cocos2D implements these concepts, and where you can get more information.
The technical goals of this session are specifically to introduce scenes, layers, and sprites. As time allows, he will also demonstrate particles, tile maps, and introduce you to the low-cost tools available to you to create them.
About James:
James A. Brannan is a software engineer with over 15 years of experience. He has developed using everything from AWK, to Enterprise Java, to iOS. He enjoys writing code that moves data from point A to point B almost as much as he enjoys writing code that makes a lizard leap or a chick peep. He has written several books for publication, including two on iOS development. His current book is an introductory book on iPad development. Immediately after that he plans on writing a book on Cocos2D.
