The Premier of the New James Bond Film - SKYFALL!!

Hello Movie Fans!

I recently signed up as a new Assistant Organizer for the group. I am an expat who has lived in London almost a year now, and have a huge passion for the movies. I hope to share that with you by posting come cool events - I always welcome helpful advice or ideas for films / venues so don't be shy.

For my 1st event, I'd love to host the newest installment of one of my favorite move franchises, James Bond, with SKYFALL. This looks to be a great follow-up to the somewhat disappointing Quantum of Solace and its predecessor, the GREAT Casino Royale.

We will be viewing this highly anticipated film at the VUE in Islington (Angel Tube), so it should be pretty central for everyone.

Here is the web link to the official Skyfall website - check out the great trailer: http://www.skyfall-movie.com/site/

Come on out and spend a great evening with new and old MeetUp movie fans... we will have a friendly dinner / pub event prior to the film (due to the later ending of the film), then meet up afterwards for a pint or two at a nearby pub to socialize some more - either to commiserate over a disappointment or applaud a cinematic achievent! Either way, it will be fun.

Here is the web link to a BBC review of SKYFALL: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19940764

WHAT: The 23rd installment of the greatest movie franchise in cinema history, James Bond, in Skyfall!

WHERE: VUE Islington cinema (Angel) / Pre-Movie Restaurant will be Desperados, a cool looking Mexican restaurant on the Islington High Street!

WHEN: Event Meeting Time is 600PM. We will meet at the restaurant (Desperados), our Mexican restaurant, for dinner. We will then leave the restaurant at approx 745PM to walk back to the cinema. For movie showtimes, you can choose either: 1) "Extreme" Seating (2000 / 800PM) OR 2) Standard Seating (2030 / 830PM).

TUBE: Angel Tube (Northern Line)

TICKETS: 11 Pounds 80 for Standard Seats (13.75 if VIP) OR 14 Pounds 30 for "Extreme Seats" (15.75 for Extreme VIP).

Please buy your tickets online not later than Wednesday October 24th (I will be buying mine online as early as that Monday 22nd to ensure I get in) as this will be Opening Weekend and it WILL SELL OUT! Would love to see you all there, so keep that in mind. Here is the link for the VUE Islington cinema: http://www.myvue.com/latest-movies

NOTE: The SEATS will be first-come / first-serve... we will meet up prior to the film for dinner, then do some more socializing afterwards over a pint or two. For dinner, if everyone is on time, it will help you ensure you have a good seat in this very nice, but intimate (not a lot of space) restaurant.. Also.... the "Extreme Seat" showtime (8PM) movie ends at 2250 (1050PM), and the "Standard Seat" showtime (830) movie ends at 2320 (1120PM). As such we will meet at 6PM in either case to have dinner and socialize in advance of the film, then meet more briefly after the film for a pint at a nearby pub so people can make the Tube home. Thanks in advance!

See you there on Saturday, October 27th, 2012!

Very well organised by Brett. Good film, though there were a lot of unexplained bits. How did Silva escape, for example?

Myself? Am fine, thanks. Would like to see The Hobbit and The Master, and a film that was released the same week that Claudia Winkleman said was the best one she'd seen for years. Any work in the offing?

      December 18, 2012

Yes, I've sen the Master, - about Donald Rudd, who started Scientology. The scientologists are those bokes who stop tyou to do a personality test on you, when you're out shopping in the Wester End. Evaluation must be right, if the MAster made the test up. I think Human Rsources people should use it for deciding who's suitable to do paid work and who isn't. Work was in the offing before, but now it's just off. The Hobbits was good as well – look out for Gollum.

A quick message to Tate M. to say thanks for the followup greeting -- sorry for posting it here but Tate's privacy settings block replies and greetings, so a public thanks is in order :)

To everyone who came out tonight, I really appreciate your RSVP and coming out tonight to the SKYFALL movie event! The Mexican food at Desperados was great (as was the music and decor)... my apologies to anyone who had difficulty finding it, as your crazy organizer posted the wrong address originally! Ha ha... see you next time at the Hobbit!

I would suggest those not having the meal meet at the top of the escalator, inside VUE. My group will leave Desperados at 745 to go to the cinema... and can meet you there at 8pm.

    • Roni

      Thanks for that Brett!

Hiya, I can't make the meal either but can meet at the cinema. Any suggestion of a meeting place inside VUE would be helpful - I won't know anyone.

You are right, Becca and Lee. Sorry I did not get to this earlier! The Standard ticket for 830PM is what you want, hopefully that is still available... if not, you can probably still get an 8PM Extreme ticket (which costs more). A suggestion in case anyone misses out after its sold out eventually - if you miss out, you could always see the film earlier in the day (they have them as early as 10AM), or see a Sunday matinee the next day which should be much less popular. That way - you could still come to the dinner with us and just skip the drink afterwards (so we don't give away the movie's secrets (!) to you). Just in case...

hi brett, so we can either get standard or extreme seating depending on individual's preference, is that right?

    October 21, 2012

    • A former member
      A former member

Hi there, Ellen! That is true - it's based upon your preference. In fact, if anybody finds that the Standard (cheaper) seats are sold out, you can probably still attend by opting for an "Extreme" seat. Meeting time in advance at Desperados would still be the same for you.

Desperados, our Mexican restaurant, is also a bar. You should be fine just having a drink if most of us are eating. We will probably be sitting in 4-5 different table groups, fyi. See everyone next week. TBG

Thanks for the heads up, Shirleen! Please everyone take note - she mentioned that the "Extreme" seats (2000 / 800PM) may already be sold out - but I will check. That said, I will be buying my "Standard" (2030 / 830PM) ticket this Friday the 19th! Advise everyone who can do so, do the same and not wait beyond this coming weekend!

Thanks, Gabriel! I am really PSYCHED to see this film as well - it appears on first glance that they are going back to what made Casino Royale great (while adding some cool new things, such a plot involving a loyalty issue with M) and away from what dogged Quantum of Solace as a very disappointing film.

If I recall... they are up to 17 pounds if we choose the BFI IMAX (but wow, the size of that screen!)... and less for the VUE Islington (in Angel), which are 12 Pounds (another 2 if we opt for the VIP seats / Extreme seats).

    September 29, 2012

I have been waiting for this film forever after the disappointment of Quantum... Im so proud that the villain is a compatriot Javier Bardem and that he looks so awesome ;)

Hi Brett, maybe set up a poll (under the 'More' tab). Bigger is always better when it comes to Daniel Craig. Screenwise of course. :)

Thank you everyone for such a strong response for this highly-anticipated film event! The ideas for pubs after the event are good ones... will be dropping by the cinema to see which pub is best for us to go to and will let you know. Remember - everyone will need to buy their tickets not later than the prior Wednesday the 24th via the online VUE website. Tickets SHOULD be non-alllocated (general admission) so I will need to update you on that before you buy. Have a great day!
