What we’re about
In today's go-go-go, everybody's behind, got to get more done world, it seems like our work week keeps us stressed to the max. That makes our weekends even more important, as a way to get out and get away from all the stresses of our jobs. But sometimes we're just too busy to find different things to do or meet new people. One group of Tennesseans has found a way around that time crunch. They meet up through the internet...first on a web page, then live and in person...and always with a common goal of outdoor adventure. Get to know Nashville Hiking Meetup.
In addition to our regular hikes and other outdoor adventures, we also plan social events and organize community volunteer projects such as park cleanup and trail building!
Get exercise,
. Make new friends,
. . Respect the environment,
. . . Give back to the community,
. . . . Laugh a lot
What more could you want? :-)

Is there a regular volunteer schedule to follow?
From March-October, we have a volunteer event almost every Saturday morning or afternoon, with other volunteer opportunities sprinkled through the week based on need. Our three typical volunteer events are on-foot stream cleanups, kayak cleanups and tree plantings.Wait-- who is the Cumberland River Compact?
The Cumberland River Compact is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to enhancing the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through action, education and collaboration. Our various projects and initiatives include stream restorations, stormwater flooding and pollution prevention, E-Stem programs for Tennessee teachers and experiential education programs, agricultural impact reduction through River Friendly Farms. Can I volunteer with my company, church group or other community group?
Yes! We believe the best stewardship memories are made with others. Not only would we love to host your group, but we are able to reserve a number of slots for your group to ensure everyone can sign-up as well as easily track who from your group is participating. If you'd like to set up a group reservation for this event or one of our other volunteer events, reach out to us at volunteer@cumberlandrivercompact.org and our Volunteer and Events Coordinator, Anna, would be happy to arrange something with you! While we are a whole lot of fun, we do have basic rules and guidelines that need to be followed in order to participate in our stewardship.
- All volunteers must sign Volunteer Waivers to participate in any stewardship event. This includes any additional waivers required by the city and other municipalities, as well as our standard Compact waiver. All waivers are available to sign when registering on VolunteerHUB.
- Minors MUST have a parent or guardian sign our Minor Waiver. Young children under the age of 13 cannot attend a volunteer opportunity without an adult chaperone.
- Cleanup supplies for all volunteer events are provided. We ask that you bring your own water and snacks.
- Please wear clothes and closed-toed shoes you don't mind getting wet or dirty. If you own waders and/or knee-high waterproof shoes, we encourage wearing those to anyone planning on venturing into the water.
