What we’re about
In today's go-go-go, everybody's behind, got to get more done world, it seems like our work week keeps us stressed to the max. That makes our weekends even more important, as a way to get out and get away from all the stresses of our jobs. But sometimes we're just too busy to find different things to do or meet new people. One group of Tennesseans has found a way around that time crunch. They meet up through the internet...first on a web page, then live and in person...and always with a common goal of outdoor adventure. Get to know Nashville Hiking Meetup.
In addition to our regular hikes and other outdoor adventures, we also plan social events and organize community volunteer projects such as park cleanup and trail building!
Get exercise,
. Make new friends,
. . Respect the environment,
. . . Give back to the community,
. . . . Laugh a lot
What more could you want? :-)

Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Kayak Cleanup of Pack Island (Morning Shift)Pack Island, Tennessee, TN
## REGISTRATION REQUIRED VIA THE CUMBERLAND RIVER COMPACT VOLUNTEERHUB PAGE
Event Details: Join the Cumberland River Compact for a cleanup of Pack Island at Cheatham Lake! Volunteers will remove trash from the banks of Pack Island, which is on the Harpeth River near Ashland City. While the Compact will provide a limited number of kayaks to volunteers, we're hoping to bring our Middle Tennessee boating and kayaking community out in full force for this event to maximize our trash removal impact.
If you're able to bring your own kayak or boat to this event, please email volunteer@cumberlandrivercompact.org to coordinate logistics and receive more information. Participants looking to borrow kayaks MUST register on VolunteerHub in order to guarantee a spot and a kayak. The Harpeth River is an extremely biodiverse tributary of the Cumberland River - according to American Rivers, more than 50 species of fish and 30 species of mussels call the Harpeth’s waters home. It’s important that we keep their home clean and healthy!
Volunteer Registration: Everyone who volunteers with the Cumberland River Compact must register and create an account in VolunteerHUB. Please click the hyperlink to sign up.
Wait-- who is the Cumberland River Compact?
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to enhancing the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through action, education and collaboration. Our various projects and initiatives include stream restorations, stormwater flooding and pollution prevention, E-Stem programs for Tennessee teachers and experiential education programs, River Friendly Farms certifications, and Root Nashville. Can I volunteer with my company, church group or other community group?
Yes! The best stewardship memories are made with others. Not only would we love to host your group, but we are able to reserve a number of slots for your group to ensure everyone can sign up as well as easily track who from your group is participating. If you'd like to set up a group reservation for this event or one of our other volunteer events, reach out to Anna at volunteer@cumberlandrivercompact.org.While we are a whole lot of fun, we do have basic rules and guidelines that need to be followed in order to participate in our stewardship.
- All volunteers must sign Volunteer Waivers to participate in any stewardship event. This includes any additional waivers required by the city and other municipalities, as well as our standard Compact waiver. All waivers are available to sign when registering on VolunteerHUB.
- Minors MUST have a parent or guardian sign our Minor Waiver. Young children under the age of 13 cannot attend a volunteer opportunity without an adult chaperone.
- Cleanup supplies for all volunteer events are provided. We ask that you bring your own water and snacks.
- Please wear clothes you can get wet and dirty and shoes that adequately protect your feet (no flip flops!).
