Subject: Re: [newtech-1] my neighbors spend have their year in sub sahara africa and other non industrialized counties
Hi.
Regarding the below human factors, plus i am not sure how durable the flash drives are- can be more volatile; and what other peripherals the OLPC can handle - printers, add-on storage drives, backups etc - they must save something...
On the bare browser - does any one know how it handles the flurry of pesky plug-ins that surfers must interact with in general while browsing? What about software and don't medical sites have rich media? Might they have to live abroad without YouTube? I dunno... IMO they may get stuck esp where imaging/media is concerned. It might explode just trying to open up Photoshop!
Not to take away from the OLPC, but maybe they should try it - with the more robust MAC or PC being their fall back - and then they might donate the OLPC to some worthy person or entity.
Best and God speed to the Drs.

From the OLPC reviews it sounded like the machine had a keyboard designed for children and has relatively small keys that some adults may not be able to use as easily.

But they said all they would use it for is pictures and email, nothing PCU intensive.

I wouldn't buy the OLPC if it was for an adult who actually wants to do
real work.
I'd say... get the Mac.
