As our membership surpasses 400 (!), our purpose remains the same: to turn people on to this exciting and increasingly popular endeavor and increase the honeybee population in New York City, especially now, a time when bees are disappearing at an alarming rate. So come whether you are experienced or a just a "wannabee" and meet other local beekeepers and people who are interested in bees and beekeeping to learn in a hands-on approach the art and tricks to this fascinating but easy to manage hobby.
In "bee season", meetings include a work session at the Brooklyn Bee apiary in Fort Greene, Brooklyn or other hives around town. Then there's the big summer honey extraction and bottling bee. Not to be missed.
In Winter we hang out, taste honey, drink mead, have honey-themed brunches, talks and generally have a good time. Plus there is now A FREE WINTER CLASS in basic beekeeping for the absolute beginner, through our sister organization, the Gotham City Honey Co-Op http://gothamcitybees.com/. We have 30 graduates this year, all of whom now know how to maintain a hive on their own. So come, learn! enjoy!
