Flat Rock Brook & Dumplings (Englew

What: Bike-Hike-Eat Series #3: Flat Rock Brook Nature Center & Korean dumplings (Englewood, NJ) / Jersey-style hot dogs (Fort Lee, NJ) Ride!

When: June 19 SAT 10AM

Where: Union Square

We are not changing our name to New Jersey Cycling & Food any time soon, but we are back in Jersey and none too soon!

From Union Square, we will ride up to and through Central Park and cross GWB into NJ. We will make two pick-up stops, first on NY side of GWB bike/ped path, and Jersians can meet us on the NJ side of GWB bike/ped path if you wish. Can't say exactly when we will make over to either places, so will do the best to co-ordinate. There will not be any other pick up points along the route.

Once in NJ, we will head on over to Flat Rock Brook Nature Preserve http://www.flatrockbr... and will do an easy 1.2 mile nature hike/stroll through the 150-acre preserve.

"This natural woodland is one of the last remnants of the magnificent Palisades Forest... A network of self-guiding trails leads to a cascading stream, wetlands, ponds, wildflower meadows, quarry cliffs and woodland. The diversity of the natural landscape allows our members to observe a remarkable array of birds and other wildlife in their natural habitats."

If you wear SPD cycling shoes, you may want to bring a pair of sneakers or hiking shoes. We will have a short snack break in their picnic area.

Then we ride over to Best Dumplings, a Korean take-out dumpling bar in Englewood, get our leek, veggie, kimchi, beef, sweet-and-spicy chicken dumplings on (to go), and ride a few blocks over to McKay Park for an airy lunch, maybe catch a Little League game in process. Feel all healthy and refreshed after a nature hike and dumplings? We head over to a Fort Lee greasy spoon called Hiram's Roadstand next to Palisades Park, known for their NJ-style deep-fried hot dog AKA "the ripper, an in and outer, or a weller." Maybe knock back a beer or two before heading back to NYC via GWB (or elsewhere). It will be a day filled with city parks (in two states), a nature oasis full of birds and wildlife, and some badass dumplings and Jersey chili dogs to make it all worthwhile!

25-30 miles w/ hills.
