Hello Permies,

On Saturday Sept 17th and Sunday Sept 18th we (New York Heartwoods - a regenerative forest management company based in Warwick, NY) are hosting the first of our community empowerment workshops, for land owners and tree lovers alike.
These Chainsaw Safety Training courses, lead by Bill Lindloff (more info:, are timely for those who are dealing with trees that Irene has taken down, those who are managing their ash trees in anticipation of the Emerald Ash Borer, or that have other dead/dying/diseased/downed trees on their property or in their neighborhoods.  Not only do these classes emphasize safety for the individual running the saw, they also aid in tree felling accuracy to better protect the adjacent trees, and thus the vitality of forests.

Sat. 9/17, 8AM-4PM - Level 1 focuses on introducing the participant to open face felling and the development of techniques to safely use it.  Topics covered include personal protective equipment, chainsaw safety features, chainsaw reactive forces, bore cutting, pre-planning the fell, and understanding hinge wood strength. *

Sun 9/18, 8AM-4PM  - Level 2 focuses on maximizing chainsaw performance through basic maintenance, carburetor setting, and filing techniques.  Limbing and bucking techniques are introduced, spring pole cutting is covered and more felling is practiced. *
