Happy Holidays, and Important Info about Next Week

Hello Everyone!

We hope that you are all having a wonderful start to Hannukah and a Happy Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving/Harvest/Family weekend! May you all have safe travels and peaceful, not overly full, stomachs!

When you come back, we hope that you will join us for our December monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 3rd. Thanks to new member Soraya, we will be meeting in a new, quieter, conference space in midtown this Tuesday, near the Empire State Building. To celebrate the end of the year, we’d like to have a mini-party with some shared food and drinks as we share stories of our favorite events that have happened over the year.

The evening will happen in four sections. First, there will be time for eating, mingling, and introductions. Then, there will be a brief slideshow presentation and reports from some of the larger events like the Permaculture Institute of the NorthEast (P.I.N.E.) Conference for Women in Permaculture, the 2nd Annual Permaculture Festival, and the 4th Annual Black Farmers and Urban Growers Conferences, as well as some of the smaller events that we’ve all bonded over throughout the year. (If you have some slides you would like included, please contact Tiffany.)

In the second half, we will have a special presentation by Event Organizer and co-founder of Smiling Hogshead Ranch, Gil Lopez. Two weeks ago, Gil was featured in several local papers for his efforts to get legal rights to the land he guerrilla gardened. Here’s one of them: http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/queens/guerilla-gardeners-legit-article-1.1514689 And, here’s another: http://licpost.com/2013/11/09/guerilla-farmers-legally-allowed-to-put-down-roots-in-lic/ Smiling Hogshead Ranch has also recently been added to the Just Food list of farm apprenticeship sites! http://justfood.org/farm-school-nyc/apprenticeship-site-smiling-hogshead-ranch. Congratulations, Gil! If you’re interested in learning about the challenges of urban farming, getting legal recognition, and expanding your services to work with schools and other nonprofits, then don’t miss this event!

(You can find more pics and 'Like' his page on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/SmilingHogsheadRanch)

The event will conclude with some important announcements about what you can expect from the group in the coming year and time for you to offer suggestions for activities you’d like for us to do together. If you can't make it, but would like to sound off on planning for the next year, please contact us. You can also add suggestions anytime  on our message board http://www.meetup.com/nycpermaculture/messages/boards/thread/39949622

We look forward to seeing you all next Tuesday!

Have a great holiday weekend!

Cheers,

Tiffany and Alice Uma

P.S. PLEASE BRING SOME SNACKS TO SHARE FOR THE PARTY. (It's will be Alice Uma's birthday. Let's make sure it's a happy one!!!) And try to come on time as it will be hard to let you in later.
