was just at the El Sol Brillante Community Garden on east 12th st
between Ave A & Ave B.
they have been successfully experimenting with a way of composting
using this microbial inoculant called EM-1 that insanely speeds up the
rate of decomposition by fermenting the compost - which has the
additional benefit of killing the stench, making undesirable to rats,
not allowing maggots to become flies, etc etc. . .
has anyone else tried this or know much about it? seems pretty incredible
the champion of this, a man named Shig, has offered to do a workshop
on the process
this Saturday April 10
at the El Sol Brilliante,
open to all,
$5 donation to the garden if you can swing it.
and with the other composting class at 10 AM Saturday at La Plaza
Cultural a couple blocks away, too we can make a dirt-y day of it.
I'll be at both, hope to see you
