This is our sixth trip (five years in a row!) to Bonaireand Buddy Dive Resort during Coral Spawning season in the sunny southern Caribbean where you can Dive Your Face Off (DYFO) all day and all night. After you're done diving for the day, head down to the windswept sundrenched southern side of the island and kick it at the windsurfer camp in Lac Bay, watch the "green flash" of sunset on the water as you dine al fresco in the oceanside restaurant, or swim up to the swim-up bar. Dive as much or as little as you want. Shore tanks are unlimited, as is Nitrox.
True to the name, the "Sex on the Reef Tour" in Bonaire coincides with the 9th moon of the year, which is traditionally when we see tons of spawning activity in the water during the day and at night. We've seen the star coral explode with pink gametes, touch-me-not sponges billowing smoke, wrasses in frenetic mating rituals, sea cuccumbers and brittle stars doing the undersea dance of love. It's a sight not many humans on earth have ever seen, and while there are no guarantees, there's a good likelihood that you'll get to see some of these true wonders of nature. As anyone who has seen it will tell you, it is truly a special experience.
Check out all the fun we had last year!

Ned and Anna Deloach in Residence!
What's more "Reef Fish" author and photographer Ned DeLoach and his wife and videographer Anna DeLoach ("Sensational Seas") will be in residence yet again at the resort, giving tips and pointers and diving with us on a dive that is truly something special. As anyone who was on the trip in 2013 or any previous year will tell you, Ned and Anna are like fish magnets, they manage to find stuff at their favorite dive sites that are spectacular and that you might ordinarily miss!
Our package includes 11 boat dives, which means 4 days of two-tank boat diving and one three-tank day. Two-tank days can start at 8:30am or at 1:30pm, depending on how the dive op schedules us (we find this out closer to the date of our arrival). The three tank day is a little bit more special, because we dive two and then take a lunch break surface interval at No Name Beach on Klein Bonaire, where you can dig your toes into the gorgeous white sand on the small island just across the water from the resort.
Other parts of the day can be completely unscheduled, it's up to you, and what's great is that we get a pickup truck with each of our condos, for use on on shore diving excursions and tours of the island. If you'd rather stay close to home, the dive dock at Buddy is always well supplied with tanks, so you can strap one on at any time of day or night and jump right in to explore the local inhabitants of Buddy Reef, just thirty yards away.
