Box Hill Circular -10 Hilly Challenging Miles

Box Hill Circular -10 Hilly Challenging Miles

Details

A circular hike around Box Hill is a fantastic way to start your weekend. While this hike is not easy- there are at least four steep uphills and challenging terrain all around- it is one of the most rewarding walks as far as views and a good dose of quiet nature. I will be taking this walk at a moderate pace. If you haven't left your sofa much this winter, this walk might not be for you.

Meet me at London Victoria at 9am near the Delice de France near Platform 11. I will be wearing a retina-searing yellow shirt but if you can't find me my mobile is 079 4479 7274. When we have a group gathered, I'll send someone off to buy a group save ticket so please bring cash. A return to Boxhill is currently £8.80 and with the group save it will be 1/3 less. We will be taking the 9:31 train leaving from London Victoria that gets to the Boxhill/Westhumble station at 10:21. If you live in Surrey or want to join the train later on down the line, just let me know.

We will be going over the famed Stepping Stones before ascending Box Hill. There is a National Trust cafe at the top of the hill to replenish your energy before we begin the hike in earnest.

Pack a lunch and plenty of water as there are lots of opportunities for a scenic picnic on the way.

Plan on 4-5 hours of active hiking time. It is winter, so dress warmly in layers. Boot are a must on this walk. If you own hiking poles this is a good hike to use them on as the steep sections get quite muddy and slippery.

We will end our walk at the Stepping Stones Pub for a well-deserved pint. There are hourly trains back to London from Boxhill station.

A note about the Outdoor Adventure Club:

The OAC is a 'not for profit' organisation under the supervision of the government appointed CIC Regulator. It is run entirely for the benefit for its members and organisers receive no financial gain for the time and skills they volunteer.

A contribution of £5 is requested for this walk because currently we need to raise money so we can develop a fund to pay for training and provide basic equipment for a leadership team. This team will need first aid skills and proper navigation training which is quite costly. On top of this we need to pay for insurance and accountancy fees. It all adds up and your contribution is greatly appreciated. However if you are unemployed or facing financial hardship please let us know and we are happy for you to join the walk without making any financial contribution.
