UPDATED SPEAKER #2 - Jesse Franklin on "The TV and Design Industry and its' challenges in Japan”
Presenting Speaker #1 - Robert Millar
"How to Build Your Own Start-Up in Tokyo. No, Really!"
"Robert knows exactly how hard it can be for a foreign Start-Up to gain traction in Tokyo's crowded business scene, and has the 'war wounds' to show for it. So exactly how does a Start-Up go from an idea at the kitchen table to a CEO's desk in a private office? Robert will walk us through the 3 main steps, and will even give any would-be Start-Ups in the audience a boost to get started."
Australian Entrepreneur Robert Millar has built two successful Start-Ups in Tokyo, the flagship of which is his popular Qhub.com web app, which he presented on at The Pink Cow last year.
Presenting Speaker #2 - Jesse Franklin
"The TV and Design Industry and its' challenges in Japan”
In this presentation, Jesse will talk about how pipelines are made and how the artists are treated and how business is done in a bit of a different way in Japan compared to the United States. Jesse will explain how he handles business and challenges in his small Design office in Omotesando. He hopes it will benefit the audience who is considering to work as a designer in Japan as well as people in the TV and Design industry who deal with artists and want to know more on how to handle projects and foreign artists.
Jesse Franklin is a professional CG ( 3D Computer Graphics ) Artist from Los Angeles, and has experienced many different types of approaches to business when it comes to CG in the United States and in Japan. He will talk about his experience doing commercials including Nike, Reebok, HP, IBM, etc...
He worked on two 3D cartoon series here in Japan. These are Transformers Prime, and Star Wars Clone Wars. These are actually American clients, but he performed the animation post-production here in Tokyo.
Presenting Speaker #3 - Jonathan Lynch
“How collaboration consulting helps diverse teams innovate and achieve shared goals”
The qualities of a successful Japanese organization can be weaknesses in a global enterprise or start-up, due to differences in information sharing, relationships, decision making, responsibility-taking and discussion style. As a result, expats often feel frustrated by a Japanese working style that seems risk-averse, reactive, and void of active discussions and individual accountability. For expat managers, loyalty and working long work hours may be a positive, but mean little if tasks are not completed quickly or aligned with organizational strategy.
Jon Lynch runs collaboration consulting agency "Tsunago", which helps organizations in Japan to improve their internal communication and effectiveness. He shows how collaboration consulting helps companies make this change, introducing simple 'hybrid' procedures for goal-setting, meetings, emailing, teamwork and project planning.
Come along and network, learn and enjoy great company.
