For those interested in volunteering to train Pit Bulls for the CGC program at the County shelter, this is your orientation. This orientation is mandatory for anyone who wants to volunteer at the County shelter through Chako.
Volunteers are expected to commit to at least one day a week at the County shelter. The shelter prefers that we work with their dogs during their OPEN hours. So that means most of the volunteers will be working with dogs during the following hours:
Wed - Fri, 12:30 - 5:30 PM
Sat - Sun, 12 noon - 4:30 PM
Some accommodations might possibly be made for teams who need to overlap during a shelter's open-closed hours (i.e., stay until 6:00 on WED-Fri).
The shelter is located at 3839 Bradshaw Road. You will arrive at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 12th
. We will meet initially just outside the main entrance (not blocking the doors), and then we'll go to the shelter's classroom. The orientation has two parts -- a classroom portion and a hands-on portion. I'll be providing materials for you during class with information on the CGC test items. It would be helpful if you can email me in advance the days and times you are available to volunteer (list all days and times you're available within the shelter's open hours - just let me know if you're committing to one day a week or if you'd like to do more than one day week).
So, let's say I have work from 7-2 M-F (hypothetically) and I could volunteer at the shelter any day M-F after 2:00. I'd put my availability as Wed-Friday 2:30-5:30 p.m. and then say "One Day a Week".
This will help me come up with a proposed schedule faster and talk about it at the orientation.
You can email me your availability: [address removed] (if you cannot get me your availability prior to the orientation, that's okay -- but I strongly urge you to try!)
You should bring a pen and note pad and water. Please arrive a few minutes early as the shelter closes at 4:30. The orientation is expected to take the entire 2 hours, so I'd like us to be in the classroom by 2:30.
I will email you all with our waiver just before. It'll help if you print it out and bring a signed copy with you (to save time). Thanks!
Thank you again!
