Thank you for organizing this! It makes me want to read more about Beckett again What in your opinion 'Waiting for Godot' means? Is 'Godot' God? What does Beckett try to communicate? I read once that there is the bicycle race in France and the last guy who made the finish line was Godot, and hence, waiting for Godot! To me, the play was like an impressionist painting. It contains fragments of speech that may not mean much by itself (just like the dots in an impressionist painting), but if you view it from afar, you see the whole picture. In this case, I believe Beckett tries to convey the lack of communication of people, the isolation of individuals. (There are pauses and silence in the plays that means that!) Contemporary literature, in general, is a sad period of time!

Here is more information I found: Beckett did once concede, "It would be fatuous of me to pretend that I am not aware of the meanings attached to the word 'Godot', and the opinion of many that it means 'God'. But you must remember – I wrote the play in French, and if I did have that meaning in my mind, it was somewhere in my unconscious and I was not overtly aware of it."[45] (Note: the French word for 'God' is 'Dieu'.)

I saw a production of Becket'masterpiece at least 20 years ago in a small theatre on PotreroHill. produced . It featured two wonderful actors, Joe Bellan and John Robb. Mr Bellan was exceptionally poignant and droll.

Ah, Samuel Beckett. I'm not sure I've read this, maybe part of it a long time ago. I read "The End Game" (?) and didn't really comprehend it but found it fascinating nonetheless.
