This shark research is made possible and conducted in collaboration with the Guy Harvey Research Institute and Nova Southeastern University.
What can you expect?
Participants are encouraged to help in the research process as much as they would like. Everything from prepping the rigging, to reeling in the sharks - and even placing the tracking tag onto the shark. You will also be allowed to extract a tissue sample for data collection purposes.
This is truly a "hands on" experience.
Participants will be given a briefing on how to do each task, and can choose which tasks they will be involved in. There will be opportunities to see, touch, and work with the sharks up close - assuming it does not prolong the release of the shark. The main objective is to collect the data and release the shark before it becomes stressed.
Shark safety is of utmost importance.
Full Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided on the excursions, and it is an all day affair. We ask that you arrive at 7:30am, and the boat will depart at 8:00am - to return at around 5:30pm
Pricing will be $175 and will include full lunch, snacks, and the involvement in all shark research that is done on the boat.
The funds collected will be used to support the research and education efforts of Guy Harvey Research Institute, and will go a long way in helping them be successful.
We encourage people to bring clothes that they do not mind getting fishy or wet. A towel, bathing suit, sunscreen, sunglasses, and/or a hat are highly recommended. There will be a cooler on board for those who wish to bring their own drinks or snacks. The NSU and GHRI will take care of the photos, and supply them to you after the trip. No need to bring your camera - keep both hands free. You'll need them to work effectively!
