IndyPy Meetup Monthly Meetup

This location is shown only to members

We will have a new speaker this month!

Vern Ceder is Director of Technology at the Canterbury School in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he teaches and uses Python. He is the second edition author of The Quick Python Book.

He'll be coming down from Fort Wayne with some other python cohorts to give us the following talk:

Python TNG: What's New in Python 3

Python 3.x is the first version of Python to break backward compatibility. I'll cover the high points, including changes to data types and basic functions/statements like print and input; the increased occurrence of iterators where you once got lists; new features like dictionary comprehensions and metaclasses; renamed and reorganized libraries; and the all-important split of strings into unicode and bytes types and what it means for migrating code. There will also be a discussion of the relationship between Python 2.6 (and beyond) and 3.x and issues involved in porting 2.x code to 3.x and vice versa.

Please note! We will remain at the new location that will be nicer for us to have presentations. As long as we have enough people we can use the private room at Scotty's Brewhouse.

Hope to see you for beers and python!

We will also have some more Python books to give out from our sponsors O'Reilly and Pearson. Come on out and have a brew and enjoy some Python!
