Details

Join us on May 23rd for another night of self-tracking presentations, sharing lessons learned and the exhibition of QS tools.

We'll be at The Tech Museum of Innovation so RSVP early to grab your spot. Talks will be limited to 7.5 minutes + 7.5 minutes for Q&A. Lisa and Karen will be hosting along with Romie Littrell, Curator/ Exhibition Developer - Health and Biotech at The Tech Museum (http://www.thetech.org). Lots of fun will be had. :)

LOGISTICS

The Tech Museum closes at 5:00pm to the public. A museum staffer and a QSSV volunteer will be at the door to greet and sign you in starting at 5:45pm. Follow the signage to the Tech Studio downstairs. Several exhibitions and innovation play areas will be semi-open for your viewing pleasure.

Map and directions can be found at The Tech Museum "Plan Your Visit (http://www.thetech.org/plan-your-visit/directions-and-parking)."

Parking at the Convention Center Garage and the Second and San Carlos Garage can be validated, bringing the cost to $5.00. Other downtown San Jose garages charge a flat fee of $5.00. Limited metered street parking may be available.

Anyone who would like to volunteer, please write to us lists4lisa at gmail dot com or ktherzog at gmail dot com. It's a great way to meet people!

6 pm – 7:00 pm SOCIAL HOUR AND WORKSHOP

Think: "science fair" for adults. If you have a self-tracking project, gadget, app, or idea you'd like to share or demo the workshop hour is perfect for you. You don't need to have a prepared talk, or permission to show something. We will have tables and power strips where you can plug in a laptop if you like, but paper is good too. If you are making something useful for self-trackers – software, hardware, web services, or data standards – please demo it in this workshop portion of the Show&Tell. Please let the organizers know you will be bringing something to Show&Tell so we can be prepared for you.

7 pm – 8:30 pm QS SHOW&TELL TALKS

We reserve the presentation slots for personal self-tracking stories. Please let us know in your RSVP if you're interested in presenting so we can discuss your topic. Talks should answer the three prime questions: 1) What did you do? 2) How did you do it? 3) What did you learn?

If you've never been to a meetup before, you can get a sense of what the talks are like from watching videos of previous QS talks (http://vimeo.com/groups/quantifiedself/videos).

The Ignite Plus format is 30 15-second slides which makes up a presentation of 7.5 minutes. The presentation will be followed by a second 7.5 minutes of Q&A. There's flexibility on slide advancement timing, if desired, however the two periods of the talk is strictly followed. We will have space for 4 to 5 presenters and a Group Mind session.

Click here for more info (http://ignite.oreilly.com/) and here for tips (http://www.speakerconfessions.com/2009/06/how-to-give-a-great-ignite-talk/) on how to deliver a fantastic quick-fire presentation.

Talk 1: Angela Hey: "Bike tracking: tales, trails and tallies"

Talk 2: Roman Zhovtulya: "Total Life Management: quest to maximize my potential"

Talk 3: Preet Anand: "Proactive Data"

Talk 4: Peter Savich: "A Day in a Quantified Self Life".

Group Mind: Have an experiment or a project you'd like to share? The format for group mind is 2.5 minutes to talk about your question, project, issue, proposal, challenge and 2.5 minutes to solicit ideas and brainstorming from our members. A great way to kickstart or problem-solve your QS issue. If you'd like a Group Mind spot, please send Lisa an email to lists4lisa at gmail dot com and put Group Mind in the subject line.

This is a great opportunity for people new to the QS community to uncover issues and get feedback. It's also a great opportunity for experienced trackers to understand confounding variables and other tough problems.

8:30 pm – 9:45 pm MORE SOCIAL TIME

Talk to the speakers, chat with new and old friends, ask other people what they're tracking, and generally hang out and have a great time.
