El Clasico - The Aftermath

Hola Madridistas!

On behalf of the Peña Madridista NYC Board, we want to thank you all that made this event possible. Thank you for your unwavering passion for this great team of ours! A few thoughts in the aftermath of the event:

  • We are proud to announce that our charity drive for the HEARTT foundation and Mt Sinai Global Mental Health Program efforts in Liberia collected $1,200 dollars. The Peña will contribute with an additional $600 to bring the total up to $1,800! A big fat THANK YOU for your generosity! This is really an amazing achievement considering we could not do the drive in most of the downstairs area since it was so packed. We will continue our drive until the end of the holidays to reach the $2,000 mark.  Donations will continue to be accepted during the Sevilla game and by paypal via the following link:
  • Result aside, the pre-game atmosphere was really something. Thank you all and Mr. Dennehy’s staff for making this the most fun pre-game ever! We’ll take a rain check on the post-game playlist we had ready in case of victory, but rest assure, we will use it!

  • We lost to La Farsa…again… We can only repeat Mourinho’s two words to lift our spirits: STILL LEADERS.  Reflecting on the game, we really played poorly, but not because Barsa forced our mistakes, there was simply too much anxiety  up front, with some awful performances by key players (Ronaldo, Marcelo, Ozil, DiMa) and, despite all, we had many chances and still could have won the game had Ronaldo score the 2-0 or even tied at 2-2…So as we say in Spain…MENOS LOBOS. Barsa are still a great team, but they are not that superhuman team anymore, they cannot do the aggressive pressure all 90 minutes of the game anymore and all we have to do is to stay calm and carry on. Eventually we will get the monkey off our backs.

  • To all of you that joined our group in the week before the Clasico or that still have not made it to a non-Clasico event, I recommend you stop by the upcoming Sevilla game, it will be equally passionate, but less packed, and we can probably give you a proper welcome to the group.

This is not over madridistas, we still have a long season ahead of us with plenty of ups and downs and all trophies are still within reach. The battle for la Liga continues this Saturday in Sevilla, if we want to minimize the Clasico defeat, we MUST win in Sevilla. We will announce the meetup in the coming days.

Hala Madrid!
