this is an EASY hike, under 2 miles, and with no significant elevation changes.
this same event last year was the debut of Eileen as an event organizer with the group, and marked the beginning of a major watershed in the frequency and range of our events.
thanks and congratulations to Eileen!
dear friends--
we will meet at 4:00 PM CDT (5:00 EDT) at the Great Marsh trail parking lot, on Broadway ave, a couple blocks north of the Beverly Shores South Shore station, on the right side of the road.
this trail is 1.4 miles long, with no significant elevation change. including the section on Broadway to return to the trailhead, it is still under 2 miles.
this is a fee area, so you will need a permit to hang on your mirror. you may purchase one at the Marathon station on the corner if you don't have one already--but not cheap...
...but you could also park at the Beverly Shores South Shore line parking lot, and walk north a couple blocks to the trailhead by 4:00, since we will be visiting the art show at the Depot after the hike, and that is the only lot for the Depot Art Museum.
there is a public restroom at the South Shore train station, connected to the Depot Museum, just beyond the tracks before you arrive at the parking lot. there is also one at the Marathon station on the corner with US 12.
please check the weather before departure and have appropriate clothing and equipment https://weather.com/weather/today/l/46301:4:US . bring along a snack which we will eat on the trail, plus enough water (one quart minimum).
we will gather at the trailhead, and get moving by 4:15. Eileen will lead a hike around the Great Marsh trail. we will stop at the viewing platform and see what kind of birds are out today. Eileen suggests bringing binoculars if you have some.
and then we will walk down Broadway to the Depot Museum, where we will check out the 5 X 5 art exhibit, where our own Kathie Anderson has two photos and an abstract painting on display.
all the art displayed is for sale, and the proceeds benefit the Depot Museum. the reception hours are 5:00-7:00.
after the art show, we may go across the street to The Goblin and the Grocer https://www.goblinandthegrocer.com/ for a happy hour cocktail, or a bite to eat.
i invite you to enjoy this fusion of exercise, nature, community, food and drink, and culture on a Friday afternoon.
