The Business of Ruby
This Thursday we'll be holding a group discussion about the state of affairs as a professional Rubyist. How did you become one? How do you maintain your skills? What kinds of work do you do?
If you are a hiring manager, what do you look for when hiring?
If you are a team who brings on junior members, how do you nurture your new talent?
If you are a freelancer or small development shop, what are you doing to grow your business?
Over the last year, there has been an explosion of "Boot Camps" and "Coding Academies" all trying to serve the insatiable demand for developers, especially in the hot spots of San Francisco/Bay Area and NYC. In Sacramento alone, we regularly see 25+ people attend our beginner events. We now have four recruiting or larger development agencies regularly attending or asking about attendees.
What is going on?
Please come and share your insight, and also, share what technical chops/stacks/know-how you think are going to be critical in the coming year.
From this discussion we'll be populating our agenda for the second half of the year so we can help present some of these important topics.

A number of folks will be around before the formal meeting (6:30-7:00pm) to conduct a "Ruby Clinic". Bring your questions, problems, or other issues in and we'll try to help you out. Whether you are a new learner of Ruby, someone trying to set up a new machine, or an experienced developer with a tough problem at work, the Ruby Clinic is the place to turn to. Hope to see everyone at the meeting!
