What we're about

Discuss Ruby, Ruby on Rails, and the rest of the Ruby ecosystem. We also branch out and explore other interesting languages (JavaScript, Elixer/Erlang, Go, Swift, you name it), design patterns, programming and software development practices, tools, processes, and other web, mobile, desktop, other device technologies.

We split out sessions between those for new learners (new to programming or new to the language) and experienced designers and developers. Our meetups feature lectures/talks, hand's on learning labs, programming contests, and other social events.

No matter your level of knowledge, all are welcome in a fun and respectful environment that supports sharing and learning.

Ruby Code Reading Night: Logger

HackerLab Sacramento (New!)

Ruby committer Jeremy Evans will lead the group through another journey inside of Ruby. Most Ruby programmers have used the logger library directly or indirectly. During this meeting, we will be reading the logger library code, figuring out how it works, discussing implementation details, and possibly making improvements.

Learning Ruby: Let's Build a Simple Web App

HackerLab Sacramento (New!)

SacRuby organizer Chris Haupt will lead the group through a hand's on exercise to build a simple web application using Ruby. We'll briefly discuss the differences between a few common frameworks that make the job of creating a web app easier (Rails, Sinatra, Roda). Next we'll load one up with the goal of creating a simple web page and a basic API endpoint. This is a hand's on lab, suitable for beginners. Bring your laptop with a current version of Ruby installed or come early and we can help you get set up. Drinks and Snacks will be provided by our sponsor FullStack Labs!
