Thanks for looking into the Houston Sailing Meetup Group.
I hope to get people out sailing who have been dreaming about sailing. You can come for a ride to learn more about the sport, more about sail trim and boat handling, more about yourself. You can come to relax, enjoy the beauty of Galveston Bay, turn off the cell phone and meet new friends.
We have J/Boats J/105 34 foot racer/cruiser to use as a platform for teaching and practicing skills, relaxing and recharging, or pushing the limits of man and machine. This boat will handle all sailing conditions extremely well, safely and assuredly.
Generally, we have new sailors interested in checking out the sport more thoroughly and enthusiasts who like the chance to get out on the water occasionally. We can tailor any outing to accomplish the groups desires for teaching, practice, or just relaxing.
We are going sailing. We have some events on a performance oriented racer, J/105. and other events aboard a J/80. Members come to learn about sailing and actively participate in sailing the vessel, or just relax out on Galveston Bay and turn off the cell phone. Everyone is welcome to join the group, come sailing and meet new friends.
The J/105 (34') "Zippity" events will be 4-5 hour romps on the Bay going upwind and blasting back down with the spinnaker. This is an exciting ride. You'll learn about sail trim, sail handling and the team work needed to sail well.
The J80 is 26' and a pure rocket ship out on the Bay. It is more physically challenging, and you might get wet. Proper gear for the weather conditions is necessary.
Please make sure you have on proper sailing shoes or white soled tennis style shoes (bare feet ok), and clothing appropriate for the season. The Message Board has more information, too.
