Announcing a new Meetup for San Diego Vegans! this one is not to be missed.

What: the Final La Milpa vegetarian potluck - the community party of the century.

When: Saturday, September 18,[masked]:00 PM

Where: La Milpa Organica
9928 Protea Gardens Rd
Escondido, CA 92026

Potluck & Wood-fired Pizzas @ 5pm
Family-friendly Film after dark

This is the last chance to visit this little agricultural gem before they close at the end of September. Farms are nice places to hang out, and what Barry Logan has created here is a perfect example of how beautiful things happen when a community embraces a farm. We'll serve freshly made, wood-fired pizzas. After dark we'll show a family-friendly, inspiring movie under the oak trees. Rain cancels.

It's technically a vegetarian POTLUCK....so look carefully at the dishes you put on your plate. Most dishes are labeled and be sure to label the dish you bring as VEGAN....

I can't recommend this event enough and am deeply troubled that i'll be missing it myself. This is the end of an era......and will be a doozy of a sending off point.!

take pictures!

Note from La Milpa farmer Barry Logan:
September 1, 2010
Dear friends, friends of the farm, eaters, volunteers, fellow farmers, apprentices, chefs, fellow travelers, magnificent humans all:

I have decided to close La Milpa Organica Farm.

Farming would ideally be focused on caretaking the land, growing food and feeding people. Unfortunately, the administrative burden imposed by the existing regulatory framework has made it impossible to continue.

I am truly humbled by the support that the people of San Diego have given the farm and me personally.

The farm has been a great success in terms of feeding people. We have been able to maintain year-round vegetable production for seven years. Vegetables are incapable of lying. That is, the quality, taste, freshness of our produce are an honest reflection of the place and conditions under which they were grown and harvested. I am very proud of the story they tell us each day.

The local food movement has grown considerably during my tenure, the new farms coming along insure that there will not be food vacuum left in our wake.

I know that I am leaving this land in better condition than I found it. The quality of the soil and increased bio-diversity reflects that. Still I am saddened to turn off the irrigation and leave.

Our fundraising efforts for a well raised seven thousand dollars. San Diego Roots is holding those funds against future need. Thank you everyone who contributed. I would like those funds used to develop the newly established San Diego Roots farm.

I will be taking some time off to reflect and heal.
I again would like to say thank you and wish you all blessings and good health.
