Re: [bookclub-1418] Send me book suggestions for March and April

Hi,
My suggestion is:  The Shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. The time is the 1950s; the place, Barcelona. Daniel Sempere, the son of a widowed bookstore owner, is 10 when his father takes him to the warehouse of forgotten books and he discovers a novel, The Shadow of the Wind, by Juli?n Carax. The novel is rare, the author obscure, and rumors tell of a horribly disfigured man who has been burning every copy he can find of Carax's novels. A story within a story, written for people who love to read.

Hi everyone,

We've been talking about improvements to our book selection process and one of the better ideas is to plan two months out instead of just one. This provides people with more time to find books, borrow them from the library, and read them.

To start the process, we're going to be voting on books for March and April at our next meetup.

Please send me your book selections in the following format:

Book Name by Author (Optional event related to book)
Short Description

For example, for the book "Eat, Pray, Love", you could submit it as follows:

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (Movie comes out on August 13th this year)

At the age of thirty-one, Gilbert moved with her husband to the suburbs of New York and began trying to get pregnant, only to realize that she wanted neither a child nor a husband. Three years later, after a protracted divorce, she embarked on a yearlong trip of recovery, with three main stops: Rome, for pleasure (mostly gustatory, with a special emphasis on gelato); an ashram outside of Mumbai, for spiritual searching; and Bali, for "balancing."

Feel free to submit any events (e.g., movies, plays, author speakings, etc.) or no events at all. Don't worry if there are no events for your books, there will be months with no events because people really want to read the book.

To avoid spamming the list, please send your recommendations directly to me at [address removed]. I'll collate them and create a poll for everyone to narrow the selections down. We'll then vote on the top poll results at the book meeting this month.

This group has great taste. I look forward to reading and posting your suggestions!

Nile
