Technical Excellence w/ Arlo Belshee
Details
The Topic:
Does your software have bugs? Do stories have technical dependencies? Do stories sometimes take longer than expected, due to the quality of the code you touch? Are there some stories that can only be done by some people? These situations are optional and reversible.
We have found ways to work that consistently eliminate all of these problems. Over time, these practices have become regular. It is more than just a call to pair or to do TDD. Different ways of practicing these practices result in different outcomes.
Arlo will kick off the discussion with a short talk about bugs and where they come from.
Then he will facilitate a discussion about what is possible with modern development practices. We will discuss specific details for practices, their interdependencies, and the patterns that tend to emerge over the first 2-3 years.
If you want to read ahead, see http://bit.ly/AgileEngineeringStages. In the last 2/3 of the talk will discuss whatever stages the audience finds most relevant
About Arlo Belshee:
Arlo is 10 pounds of crazy in a 20 pound bag. So there's room for more crazy.
Arlo tries stuff in the real world. Some of it works. Some doesn't. Then he talks about what he tried. He knows the theory, but only cares about the practical outcomes.
He's also got this thing with names. His innovations include Naked Planning, Promiscuous Pairing, and Drunken Estimation. Oh, and he's Bloody Stupid from time to time.
For a good time, chat him up in a hall, a bar, or online. Or just castigate him in public and see what happens.
