  • Sep 24, 2013 · 6:00 PM

For SF Python's meetup on 9/24, we will be hosting a Project Night for you to work on your Python related projects and get programming help.

Burritos from El Tonayense, beverages, power, and WiFi will be provided by our facility host Disqus.

Who should attend?

• New to Python and want to work with other Pythonistas

Experienced devs who want to hack on your work, personal or open-source projects

• Experienced devs who want to mentor others (please sign-up here)

The plan:

6:00p  Begin check-in

6:30p  Welcome remarks

6:35p  Introductions: tell us about your project and/or the kind of help you seek

6:45p  Make yourself comfortable and start hacking, or attend one of the tutorials

9:30p  Wrap up

Example of projects to hack on:

• Personal side projects - your web application or personal learning project

• Open source projects  - work on open issues or recruit developers for your project

SF Python's Project Nights are an excellent way to meet other pythonistas and learn (or teach) python. It is a much better way to spend an evening than sitting alone in the dark in my sweatpants on Stackoverflow.

Last night I told some people PyCharm was not free but worth it, well they just released 3.0 and made a free community edition.

Yes I have been trying it out. I find the keyboard shortcuts for it to be a bit clunky. Do you know if there is an easy way to set those the same as Sublime Text by any chance?

You can customize Keymaps in prefs, which will create a keymap xml file in your user preferences pycharm directory. If you make one to match Sublime Text, you could share it. don't know if one is already out there.

For anyone else who is interested, here are the installation instructions (start at the "Welcome"):

...and here is the Webscraper Workshop that we worked thru:

...FYI, is a tutorial site that Lynn has written ( is the website, new-coder is the repo on GitHub).

Damn, I've missed the RSVP deadline. Is there any wiggle room at all there?

    September 24, 2013

    • Hy C.

Daniel, I'm about to message the group. We have little to no wiggle room tonight. See you next month!
