Main talk: Python and the Functional Standard Library by Matthew Rocklin
Python functions like map, filter, and reduce belong to a larger collection of functions from functional programming. This collection includes other common operations like groupby, unique, memoize, etc.
In this talk we describe the functional standard library, existing Python implementations of it, and how it can be useful in data analytics. We hope to motivate rational discussion on the place of functional programming within the Python ecosystem.
Bio: Matthew Rocklin works for Continuum Analytics, a company active in the Scientific Python ecosystem. He is also the lead developer of PyToolz, a functional standard library for Python.
